Description:
Four firefighters on a New Jersey state fire engine were entrapped and burned on a forest fire near Hammonton, New Jersey on March 26, 1943. All four of the burned firefighters were taken to the hospital in Atlantic City and passed away during the following days. One engine crew member survived without injury.
Those four firefighters lost on the Hammonton Fire: William Hoover, Alfred Ingersoll, and brothers Carl Luderitz, who was 16 years old, and Ralph Luderitz, who 17 years old.
