Description:
Four firefighters on a New Jersey state fire engine were entrapped and burned on a forest fire near Hammonton, New Jersey on March 26, 1943. All the burned firefighters were taken to the hospital in Atlantic City, and passed away in the following days. One of the engine crew survived without injury.
Those lost on the Hammondton Fire were: William Hoover, Alfred Ingersoll, and brothers Carl and Ralph Luderitz. Carl and Ralph Luderitz were 16 and 17 years old, respectively.
