Description:
As part of burn unit preparation (snag mitigation) on the East Eagle-Mud Springs Prescribed Fire, Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Arizona, a sawyer was struck by a portion of a dead aspen tree with two tops. As the faller completed the cut, the tree fell to the desired lay, but when it hit the ground, one of the tops came back and struck the sawyer. On the ground, the sawyer was in pain (leg and back) and was tended to by a qualified EMT. The sawyer was transported via agency vehicle to the hospital (Springerville, AZ) where diagnosis of broken fibula and 3 broke ribs was provided.
