Description:
This incident occurred on the East Troublesome Creek Fire on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. A U.S. Forest Service crewmember working a spot fire lost footing while moving downhill and fell onto a large rock. The patient was treated on scene by a Forest Service EMT and diagnosed with a fractured femur with no vascular compromise. The patient was transported via ground ambulance to a hospital, underwent surgery the next day, and is currently recovering. The surgeon reported the fracture as critical because it extended to the knee joint and included a broken patella. The surgery was successful. A full recovery is expected after rehabilitation.
