Description:
On April 28, 2011, the lightning-caused, Honey Prairie Fire, started on the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge five miles northeast of Fargo, Georgia. On June 1, 2011, a burn out operation was conducted along Fiddlers Island Road. Environmental conditions seemed minimal during the ignitions operation. Once ignitions were in progress, the main fire spotted and began running towards and crossing the road in three locations. The decision was made for all resources to withdraw to the Strange Island Staging Safety Zone. No injuries to personnel or damage to equipment was reported.
