Flat Fire Smoke Jumper Hard Landing 2018

  • Description:

    In Bridger-Teton National Forest, a smokejumper had a hard landing, injuring an ankle. The patient was stabilized by U.S. Forest Service EMTs, flown by agency helicopter to Afton Airport, then taken by ground ambulance to the hospital. X-Rays indicated an ankle avulsion fracture (a type of injury in which a small piece of bone is pulled away from the main bone by a ligament or tendon). The patient was released to light duty with a follow-up appointment scheduled for the next week.
