Description:
On August 7, 1945, U.S. Army Heavy Equipment Operator Joseph Short was killed when his dozer rolled over on a steep embankment while he was suppressing a fire located near Forest Grove, Oregon. Short attempted to leap clear of the dozer when a rockslide threatened to push it over--but the machine struck him as it rolled. Short had recently been engaged in fighting in the Pacific Theater of World War II.
