Frog Fire Entrapment Fatality 2015

A lightning strike recorded at 1732 on July 30, 2015 started the Frog Fire, on the Modoc National Forest, California. Starting at approximately one hour after ignition, outflow winds from thundercells pushed the fire first to the northwest and then the southwest. A powerful head fire began running southwest with torching, spotting, and intermittent crown runs and flame lengths calculated between 20 to 80 feet. ICT4 Dave Ruhl was on foot on the southwest flank of the fire when this sudden wind shift caused the fire to overrun his location. Dave Ruhl was entrapped and perished sometime after 1926 on July 30.
