Description:
On the afternoon of August 2, 2021 on the Gales Fire on the Willamette National Forest in Oregon, fire behavior changed from backing ground fire to single and group torching with intermittent crown runs. Fire behavior continued to increase and at 1630 a trainee Division Supervisor, who had been scouting indirect lines, believed his escape route was compromised. With no opportunity to reach an alternate safety zone, the trainee Division Supervisor requested a short-haul extraction. The request was granted, and the individual was short-hauled to safety.
