    At 1637 hours on June 28, 2008, on the Green Rock Fire, a lightning strike occurred where firefighters had gathered to take a hydration break. Eight firefighters received injuries who were in the direct path that the strike followed along the ground. One firefighter lost feeling in his right side and collapsed on the ground. The IC was knocked down and received burns to both feet and had pain in both legs and knees. Another firefighter was thrown backwards and could not feel his legs for some time. He had burns on both hips and left leg. Another was thrown back and could not move for 2–3 minutes. Another firefighter experienced tingling in his legs and ringing ears. Another firefighter lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness, except for his right arm, his entire body was numb. Other injuries included: pain on one's right side and memory loss; hearing loss, burns to skin.

    The four individuals with the most significant injuries were removed first by the aid of a Kubota RTV that was pre-assigned to the incident. Three others were transported on a second trip. The remaining 14 firefighters proceeded to leave the incident on foot. All of the injured personnel were transported to Caldwell Memorial Hospital for treatment.
