Description:
At 1450 on September 3, 1969, a Consolidated P4Y-2 air tanker registered N1911H crashed during fire suppression operations near Greybull, Wyoming. While performing a retardant run, the aircraft was observed to strike a tree with its right wing as it emerged from smoke. Winds at the time were about 35 mph. Causes of the accident were determined to be improper planning as well as smoke obscuring high obstructions in the flight path.
