Description:
Firefighters Herbert Harvey and Nolan Warner were killed when they became entrapped by fire near Grimes Pass on the Boise National Forest in Idaho. These two men were part of group of six firefighters escaping the fire area in a truck when they stopped to extinguish a spot fire. While attempting to move the truck to a safe location, the driver realized that this was impossible and abandoned the vehicle, which burned. While they engaged the spot fire, the main fire they had been escaping threatened to entrap them. The majority of the crew sought refuge in a clearing while Harvey and Warner attempted to outrun the fire. The fire transitioned into the crowns of the trees and caught the two on a mid-slope road, where they died instantly.
