Description:
William Haines, a 17-year-old crewmember with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at Camp GNP 1 in Belton (now West Glacier), Montana, was fatally injured by a falling tree on the Hidden Lake Fire, Flathead National Forest. Haines reportedly was struck on the head and suffered a skull fracture, and survived only a few minutes after the accident.
