  • Description:

On February 9, 2006, at approximately 1930 hours on the Hildreth Pool Road Fire, Dozer E-346 received a radio transmission from the Field Observer (FOBS) to come toward the light. The E-346 dozer operator started in first gear toward FOBS' helmet light. The dozer operator indicated that the light appeared intermittent either from the thickness of the brush or from FOBS turning his head. The dozer operator lost sight of FOBS' light and thought FOBS had cleared the area. The dozer operator proceeded forward approximately 25 feet then stopped because he had no visual contact, and called for the FOBS. The dozer operator got off the dozer to look for the FOBS and saw him lying on his back approximately ten feet behind the dozer. The dozer operator broadcast the emergency via radio and requested assistance. The Safety Officer and Task Force Leader arrived. The TFLD called 911. The first responder from Engine E-345 arrived and monitored vital signs until EMS arrived at approximately 2010. After assessment by EMS, an air ambulance was requested. Shortly after, the air ambulance arrived. The patient was loaded and departed by approximately 2040. The investigation team concluded that the injured party passed underneath the dozer between the tracks.
