Hoosier National Forest Prescribed Fire UTV Accident 2023

    A firefighter was injured while doing prep work for a prescribed fire on the Hoosier National Forest in Indiana. The firefighter was a passenger in a UTV; the UTV was going thru a tight spot between some trees and the individual’s boot was just off the edge of the UTV floor (outside the door). During the maneuvering, the boot caught; twisting the leg backwards and pinching it between the UTV seat and the tree. The individual was taking by agency transport to the hospital, treated and released with a follow up with an orthopedic specialist to determine injury. The ER doctor didn’t think it was broken with the preliminary x-rays.
