Description:
On the morning of August 23, 1951, Phillip Willis, an employee of the Idanha Lumber Company, was killed when the jeep in which he was riding enroute to the Hubbard Creek Fire, Willamette National Forest, went off the road. A total of six individuals were riding in the jeep enroute to this fire near Detroit, Oregon, when the jeep careened off a steep embankment at French Creek. The jeep's brakes reportedly failed. Several of the other occupants jumped clear as it went off the road. The driver was admitted to the hospital with head and back injuries.
