Description:
Harry Owens, a pilot for Aero Union Corporation in Chico, California, was killed when his TBM Avenger air tanker struck a Cessna 310 lead plane while they were maneuvering over the Humbug Fire, Lassen National Forest near Chester. While Owens lost control of his aircraft following the collision, leading to the fatal crash, the lead plane was not uncontrollable and was safely landed in a nearby meadow. The fire was contained at 400 acres.
