Description:
On July 20, a hotshot crew was working on Division Q of the Mountain Fire in California’s San Jacinto State Park. After finishing line construction on a spot fire, the crew had just begun direct line construction on a new part of the fire. After approximately five minutes of line construction, a crewmember slipped and twisted his knee. The crew activated the medical plan for the Division and constructed a makeshift splint and backboard and began carryout operations to a nearby trail. From the trail, a litter with wheel was used to complete the carryout back to the evacuation point.
