Description:
Cornelius Lane, Edouard Gassiot, and Peter Navarez (spelling uncertain, possibly Narviaze) were killed when the truck they were traveling in caught fire and exploded as they stopped to assist firefighters near Livermore, California. The three, plus another man, were employed by the Hetch Hetchy water project in San Francisco, and were traveling on the highway when they stopped to assist with suppression of a grass and brush fire. A windshift sent flames towards their vehicle, a gasoline truck. The truck caught fire and exploded, badly burning all four. All the injured men were taken to the hospital in Livermore, where Gassiot, Lane and Navarez succumbed to their injuries the following day.
