Description:
A pilot and eight firefighters assigned to the Iron Complex fire in California’s Trinity Alps Wilderness, Shasta-Trinity National Forest, perished in a crash as they were taking off from a helispot in a contract Sikorsky S-61N helicopter. Of the 13 people reported to be on-board, one other pilot and three firefighters survived the crash. The four survivors were subsequently transported to hospitals with serious and some critical injuries.
Those lost in the Iron 44 Incident were: Shawn Blazer, Scott Charlson, Edrik Gomez, Matthew Hammer, Jim Ramage, Steven "Caleb" Renno, Bryan Rich, Roark Schwanenberg, and David Steele.
