Description:
Alvin Walters, a pilot for Hemet Valley Flying Service, was killed when his converted TBM Avenger torpedo bomber crashed while dropping retardant on the Jackrabbit Fire, Riverside County, California. The cause of the crash was not reported. The Jackrabbit Fire burned more than 2,000 acres and, and its peak, had 600 firefighters assigned.
