Kootenai NF Smokejumper Injury 2018

  • Description:

    A smokejumper was injured jumping a fire on the Kootenai National Forest. The jumper’s feet hit a downed log, upending him--causing the jumper’s shoulders and head to impact the ground. The jumper complained of a sore neck and was helicoptered via agency aircraft to the Libby Hospital, where after evaluation, it was suspected that he had cracked his T4 and 5 vertebrae. Next, the jumper saw a back specialist in Missoula who confirmed cracks to the spinous processes at T4 & 5. The jumper, placed on light duty, was seeking a specialist who will accept OWCP.
