La Panza Fire Air Tanker Accident Fatalities 1958

Stuart Ashburn Kilgour and Arnel James Talbot were killed when their PBY air tanker crashed while suppressing a four-acre fire near La Panza on the Los Padres National Forest, California. The twin engine flying boat, owned by Jim Routh Company under contract with the U.S. Forest Service, hit a tree while on a low-level pass at 1915 hours--at sunset. The plane then spun into the ground, killing both pilots.
