Description:
John H. Anderson, a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crewmember from Camp Sullivan Lake near Metaline Falls, Washington, was killed by a falling snag on the LeClerc Creek Fire on the Kaniksu National Forest. Anderson was assigned to the fire as a water carrier, bringing drinking water to firefighters on the line. He was struck on the head by a snag, causing multiple skull fractures. Anderson died of his injuries the following day, September 2, 1938, at 0130 hours, according to his death certificate. The LeClerc Creek Fire was ignited by lightning and burned approximately 100 acres of timber and logging slash.
