    Lone Pine Fire, Six Rivers National Forest - August 15th, 2023

    During initial attack, two members of an engine crew were installing a hose lay when fire behavior rapidly increased. Their planned escape route into the cold black was less viable as the flank of the fire picked up—and escaping uphill would prove difficult. They were forced to move laterally, away from the left flank of the fire and into the green.
