Description:
Edward Ordner, a firefighter with the California Department of Forestry (now CAL FIRE) was killed when the vehicle he was driving--described as a "hose truck"--left the roadway and rolled over. Ordner was assigned to a fire in the Los Berros Canyon area in San Luis Obispo County that was initially reported at 1315 hours on September 16. Ordner's fatal vehicle accident occurred at 2000 hours the next day. Another firefighter on the truck, riding in the open cab, was able to jump away from the vehicle as it went off the road.
