Description:
Thomas Gorman, a miner living in Butte, Montana, was assigned for 19 days to the Lost Horse Fire on the Bitterroot National Forest south of Hamilton. On August 28, 1929, after the work day ended at 1600 hours, Gorman left camp, likely to bathe in the nearby creek in a swimming hole created by a beaver dam. That is where Gorman's body was discovered. Evidently, he was a victim of accidental drowning. Gorman's body was retrieved with great difficulty and carried by stretcher more than nine miles to a road where it was received by Ranger Shockley in a truck.
