Several entrapments were documented on the Matilija Fire, a fast-moving fire on the Santa Barbara National Forest (renamed Los Padres National Forest in 1936). The attached document summarizes four entrapments. The Matilija Fire went on to burn approximately 220,000 acres. Until 2003's Cedar Fire, the Matilija Fire was the largest fire in California's history. It is now among the 20 largest fires in this state's history.
