Meadow Creek Fire Hit by Tree Fatality 1934

    Joseph Howard, a 24-year-old firefighter with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was struck and killed by a large cedar tree on the Meadow Creek Fire on the Kootenai National Forest, Montana. Howard was killed instantly when the tree fractured his skull. Another CCC firefighter, George Banks, was also injured (back contusions) by the falling tree. The Meadow Creek Fire was controlled at 2000 acres.
