Miners Gulch Fire Hit by Rock Fatality 1940

William Von West, a firefighter from Mountain Home, Utah, was killed when he was hit by a large rock on the Miners Gulch Fire. West was assigned to the fire burning in heavy timber on the Wasatch National. West reportedly died nearly instantly after he was hit on the head by a rock that was loosened by fire burning the brush around it. The fire was controlled at about 100 acres.
