Description:
Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest: A contracted logger was loading logs onto a truck using a boom type loader. A mechanical failure of the boom's turntable bolts resulted in dismounting of the boom while in use, lowering the trailer section to ground. When dismount occurred, the boom with operator’s seat attached pitched to the side--throwing the operator clear of the truck to the ground. The operator fell approximately 15 feet, resulting in head lacerations and broken ribs. The patient was transported via ground ambulance to a landing zone, then picked up by an agency helicopter and transported to a hospital--then treated and released that evening.
