Description:
Nels Nelson, a railroad foreman for the Northern Pacific Railroad, was killed while volunteering as a firefighter east of Missoula in the hills near Turah, Montana. Nelson reportedly became separated from the rest of the firefighting force in the evening and was entrapped by the fire. His absence from the group was not noticed until the end of the night, at which point a colleague organized a search party. The man was found at 1030 the following day. It is possible Nelson fell and struck his head in attempting to escape the advancing fire. He was found with part of his clothing burned off.
