    Firefighter Antonio Hernandez, an incarcerated hand crew firefighter from California Department of Forestry's (CDF, now CAL FIRE) Gabilan Camp in Soledad, was killed when a 175-foot-tell redwood tree fell on a group of firefighters on the night of July 7. Hernandez' crew was assigned to brush a dozer line near a school at around 2200, when without warning a fire weakened redwood tree fell on the crew. In addition to Hernandez, six other firefighters were struck and injured.
