Description:
A firefighter was struck by a piece of a tree while felling a hazard tree during line preparation for an upcoming prescribed fire on the Monongahela National Forest, West Virginia. The top 3-4’ of a 3-4” diameter tree broke off and fell, striking the firefighter on their left arm. EMTs on scene rendered immediate aid stabilizing the injuries. The decision was made to transport the injured party via agency vehicle to the nearest emergency department for further evaluation. They were assessed and diagnosed with a break in the ulna and fracture of the radius.
