  • Description:

    A crew was igniting a prescribed fire on The Nature Conservancy’s Moody Forest Natural Area in southern rough with brush (gallberry) between waist high and 15 feet and a pine overstory. A firefighter dot-fired around a deer stand’s access ladder and continued lighting parallel to the road until he hit the break on the unit’s east end. The firefighter proceeded to implement this firing operation. Soon after, while a firefighter used his tool to pull fuel away from the deer stand ladder, a bullet "cooked of" -- exploded. There were no injuries.
