Description:
This incident occurred on the Mullen Fire on the Medicine Bow-Rout National Forests. A U.S. Forest Service firefighter was working on a spot fire, pulling hose up a steep embankment and assisted pushing on a large rock. The rock broke loose. Both the firefighter and rock rolled down the embankment. The rock struck the firefighter and knocked the firefighter into a tree. Initial treatment was provided by an Interagency Hotshot Crew EMT. The patient was transported via ground ambulance to a hospital. The patient sustained a slight concussion, fractured transverse process (C7 vertebrae), a compression fracture (T6 vertebrae), a sprained ankle, and multiple bumps and bruises. The patient was released from the hospital the next day, with a follow-up visit scheduled for the next week. A full recovery is expected.
