    On June 17, 1981, at approximately 1620 hours, one adult male, one adult female, a six-year-old boy, and a one-year-old girl were critically burned as they were attempting to evacuate their home when they were when caught in a strong-wind-influenced firestorm on the Murrieta Fire. Later that night, in the hospital, the six-year-old boy, Stanley James Scarlett Jr., died. In addition, six firefighters received minor injuries and burns in the firestorm.
