NIPFTC and Florida DOF ATV Incident Units 26 & 32 2005

On February 21, 2005, a student at the National Interagency Prescribed Fire Training Center was firing a 53-acre in Flagler County, Florida, from an ATV when they were entrapped. While firing with a drip torch from an ATV, the vehicle became stuck in the unit. A previously lit strip of fire began to threaten the operator as they tried to free the machine. Eventually the operator abandoned the machine on foot, and escaped by running into a previous strip that was backing towards them, taking refuge in the black. They were uninjured.
