Pack River Fire Hit by Tree Fatality 1934

    John Bromet, a University of Idaho student enrolled with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was hit by a tree while his crew was assigned to the Pack River Fire on the Kaniksu National Forest in Idaho. Bramet was taken to a hospital in northern Idaho where he passed away the following day, August 19, 1934. His death certificate lists his cause of death as shock, resulting from internal bleeding from a broken right femur and probably ruptured internal organs, after being struck by a falling tree. At that time, 1,000 firefighters were on the lines of the Pack River Fire.
