Description:
At 1645 on July 12, 1965, a Bell 47G-3B helicopter registered N6788B experienced an inflight emergency during fire operations near Phoenix, Arizona. While in cruise flight a lid came off a water can that was being carried in the skid-mounted cargo rack. The lid flew back and struck the tail rotor, causing vibration severe enough to force an off-airport emergency landing. The two passengers and pilot were listed as either uninjured or sustained minor injuries.
