Description:
In early November, 1930, a fire burned roughly 400 acres near either Calabasas or Agoura Hills, California. Raymond Wheeler Taylor responded to the fire and was entrapped and perished. Whether Taylor was an official firefighter with Los Angeles County Fire Department, another agency, or simply a civilian who responded is unclear. A monument to Taylor was erected in area, describing him as a "brush fire victim;" the monument was later bulldozed for construction. Taylor's death certificate indicated he received burns over 80% of his body surface. Very little about the fire and the circumstances of Taylor's death is readily available. The fire perimeter is not documented in California's fire history database.
