Captain Daniel E. Elkins, a 20-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and member of the Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014, died in the line of duty on July 13, 2004 in a vehicle accident enroute to his station after serving as a member of the Pine Incident Management Team.
