    Three firefighters were burned while escaping a wildland fire in the area of Pinnacles National Monument, south of Hollister, California. A total of six firefighters, including a fire warden, attempted to escape an entrapment in a truck. In dense smoke the truck crashed into a tree, and three of the men received burn injuries before they all escaped to safety. The fire in the area of Pinnacles was 30,000 acres, and burned summer cabins and homes.
