Description:
Ruperto Saliz, a Section Hand for the Western Pacific Railroad, was entrapped and killed on a 350-acre fire on the Plumas National Forest in California. Saliz, 24, had been mobilized with approximately 100 others to help suppress this fire located in the area of Big Bend in the North Fork Feather River Canyon. Saliz was apparently entrapped and killed shortly after he arrived at the fire at around 1430 hours. His body was not found until later that evening when a coworker was searching for him.
