Description:
The Pole Mountain Prescribed Fire on the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Wyoming was conducted on land that had been a US Army mortar range, and unexploded ordinance (UXO) was a known hazard. Three individuals from an engine module were assigned to holding on the unit when one firefighter discovered as unexploded mortar shell in the black. The explosive was replaced as it was found and authorities were contacted.
