Description:
On February 29, 2024, the Pony Lake Fire started in the right of way of Hwy 83 South of Valentine Nebraska at roughly 1330 hours. During initial attack, a Type 6 engine stopped on a flank of the fire to cut a fence to gain access and continue flanking the fire. While stopped, a wind shift occur that resulted in the engine being overtaken by a flaming front. One firefighter sustained injuries and the Type 6 engine was damaged.
