Description:
On October 31, 2001, a member of the Plumas Interagency Hotshot Crew was struck and seriously injured by a snag while constructing handline on the Poplar Log Fire on the Redbird Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest. He was operating a chainsaw, cutting small limbs and saplings when a black locust snag burned through at the base and fell across the line, striking the firefighter's head and back. He was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital where it was determined that he had broken ribs, clavicle, and spine.
