    On October 27, 1980, on the Prado Fire on California Department of Forestry San Bernardino Ranger Unit ECC lands, a firefighter was entrapped and burned. He received burns to both hands and face. Immediate on-scene treatment was the application of water to his hands. The firefighter was then walked out of the canyon to an awaiting helicopter that transported him to the San Bernardino Burn Center. After receiving emergency treatment and being stabilized at the San Bernardino Burn Center, Flores was transferred to the Sherman Oaks Burn Center by ambulance. (Strong wind conditions at the time restricted the use of a helicopter to provide a faster means of transportation.)
