Donald Beck, a 17-year-old Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crewmember with Company 530 in Libby, Montana, was killed when he was struck by a snag on the Quartz Mountain Fire on the Kootenai National Forest. Reportedly, Beck was killed instantly. This fire was also reported as the Gleason Mountain Fire.
