Rabbit Fire Del Rosa Hotshot Crew Carrier Rollover Fatality 1967

While en route to a 35-acre acre fire on Rabbit Peak on the Angeles National Forest north of Pasadena, California, the Del Rosa Hotshots experienced a vehicle rollover. The accident occurred near Round Top Mountain and the Chilao Ranger Station. The stake-side open crew carrier carrying 14 members of the crew was traveling a mountain road when the soft shoulder collapsed and the vehicle rolled six times as it descended 100 feet down a steep slope. Richard Lee Stone,19, suffered fatal injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead on arrival at Swan Memorial Hospital in Palmdale. The rest of the crew received a range of injuries from minor to serious. Five helicopters airlifted the injured.
