Description:
Pilot Roger Stark was killed when his S-2 Tracker air tanker (Tanker 92) struck trees after a retardant drop on a one-acre wildland fire near Railroad Flat, California. The Columbia-based air tanker reportedly made a normal approach and drop on the wildland fire before it struck trees with its left wing, causing a roll to the left. The plane subsequently impacted the ground in an inverted orientation. Stark was killed instantly. NTSB report not available.
